Keia's Lavender Scandinavian Play Area

Welcome to Keia's Play Area

Recently, I found fulfillment in decorating my daughter's nursery and play area. Maybe because growing up I've always daydreamed of me having a pretty room. Don't get me wrong, I had a nice room full of Boyzone & Spice Girls pin ups (hihi) but because my Mama was an interior designer (we even had a furniture factory) I was used to seeing really pretty rooms from her portfolio and piles of home magazines. So when we moved toazaaaz our new house, Keia's nursery and play area were my priorities.

I first decorated her whimsical nursery last year (check my blog about Keia's Nursery HEREthen this January, I started her play area project. It took a while because of budget, I don't want to buy something that I really don't want just so I could fill up the space. The main theme, like what I said about the nursery, is still Scandinavian with a touch of Lavender. I am also inspired by my mommy friends teaching their kids the Montessori approach where it's essential to have a prepared environment so I incorporated it also in the play area.

Keia's Lavender Scandinavian Playarea

Keia's Play Area is just small and has only three sides. Below the window is a pull-up bar and a mirror. On the right side is where I put her wooden toys, plush toys and books.

Scandinavian Design Tip: Furniture should be neutral and bright, featuring natural or white woods and light colors fabrics. Natural textiles and rustic woods dominate the living space

Right side area
Notice that the dominant tones were natural wood, white and lavender with touches of pastel colors.

Scandinavian Design Tip: Colorful accents are a must. Introduce bold accents or like Keia's room, soft pastels hues

Neutral tones and lavender are the main theme

White Open Shelf | Happy Kiddos PH
P2,000
Open shelves are perfect for play areas so kids can easily access their toys.

Scandinavian Design Tip: When designing a space for your little one, you also have to think like them. Look for scaled down furniture

All the furniture pieces here are scaled down to Keia's size - the shelves, bin and even the two layers of book shelves are within her reach

Play Mat | The Kiddi Company
P2499
When Keia was still an infant, I bought these for her safety as she might trip.

Beige Pouffe Stool | Ikea/Furniture Source
P3,999
It's comfy and functional. Adult can sit on it while playing with their LO and it helps infants to learn how to stand up on their own too, plus it also adds pretty effect on the over all styling.

Sheep Rocker
Gift from Keia's Ninang Hancel

Sleepy Sack | Funnest
P 1095 - P 1695
Used as storage bins for Keia's plush toys. I also put here toys that are not really nice on display (hihi- it's a tip) like the plastic ones and stuff toys of famous characters.

Cloud Hook | Shoppee
P 103 each
Clouds are very Scandinavian. Graphic prints and simple patterns are most definitely Scandi-chic

Wooden Toy Camera | Artees Collection
P 300
Toys like this encourages imaginative play

Keia's Newborn Photos

Frames displayed on the side are Keia's newborn pictorial because I want to remember them forever.

Tip: Instead of going to a printing shop, invest in an affordable but good quality printer. This was my learning because I've been printing a lot of pictures for my house and it turned out cheaper if I print at home.

Wooden frames and illustrations I created thru Photoshop

Finally, I saw a Nordic decor with purple color

Nordic Wooden Star Hanging Decor | Lazada
P 279

Wooden Frames | Japan Home
P 88
They're so cheap but looks really nice. It also has plastic cover not glass so it's safe. I created the illustrations on the three frames because I wanted to incorporate lavender colors and I can't see a free downloadable images on the net.

This Lavender flower smells really good!

Lavender Plant | My Homegrown Organics
P395 for two
True to the theme, I knew I needed to put a fresh Lavender plant in Keia's room, and look it even has a flower! Plants give a refreshing vibe in any room especially if it has a lavender scent like this.

I invested in buying wooden toys because they are more durable and pretty to look at

Wooden Nesting Dolls | Super Toy Store
P 280

Wooden Mannequin Puppet | Super Toy Store

Wooden Pebbles | Water & Lighting
A gift from a good friend. These products are made in the Philippines and are exported to the US

Scandinavian Design Tip: Pass on cheap, plastic playthings in favor of toys that encourage imaginative play.

Books & Bookshelves

Reading is very essential even at a very young age so her books are as plenty as her toys. The shelves are gifts from us by Keia's Ninong but if you want a similar item you can check Ikea's spice rack.

Purple Pompoms | Shoppee
P150-200

These are shelves that Keia can reach. It's actually one of her fave activities - getting all the books and removing it from the shelf.
Located on the opposite side is Keia's Kitchen and Cube Set. Though this area is still unfinished it looks better now than before.

A new purchase. We will bring this to our next travel and hopefully Keia will get distracted with it (she hasn't used it until now)

The crate is perfect for the play area. Inside this crate are wooden toys gifted by Keia's Ninongs and Ninangs.

Keia's Play Area
Keia was so happy with this area and I'm so happy too.

Here's a breakdown of my expenses

It was so fun decorating Keia's rooms. So now that I am done here (well, almost) I can now concentrate on other parts of the house. Hope you enjoyed our little virtual tour of the room.

He was the first player to win all four major golf championships, and is one of only five players to have done so. Nicklaus is also credited with revolutionizing golf course design, as he has designed more than 300 courses worldwide.
