Walk with ChaMike at Villa Phra Sumen Bangkok.

This serene and traditional hotel at the centre of Bangkok was our home for three days.

Villa Phra Sumen Bangkok has a superb rating (9.0) and affordable rooms on booking.com - the reason why I was so sure of booking it during our stay. Tucked in an old street in Bangkok lies a peaceful, no frills hotel with classic Indochine design and architecture.
Villa Phra Sumen
Upon entering, I instantly fell in love with how laid back the lobby was. I could definitely lounge here for long time. It felt so relaxing. The hotel only has 18 rooms, making the guests feel as if they have the place all to themselves. They also have a lock at the entrance of the hotel and you can only open it via your key card which makes the place guests feel even more safe.

We were welcomed by the receptionist and showed them our hotel voucher, we paid upon check in of 4,600 THB (Php 6,320) for two nights, so that's 2,300 THB (Php 3,160) per night - not bad at all. We were also asked to pay a deposit of 1,000 Baht (Php 1,380) for the key card which will be returned upon check out.

Standard King Bed
We stayed at the Standard King Bedroom on the third floor (they have a lift btw) with an ensuite toilet and bath and balcony overlooking the garden. The design is a classic Indochine design in warm tones that gave a zen effect.

Complimentary Plated Breakfast
I was always excited with hotel's breakfast selections, sadly we only got to experience one day breakfast as we need to go to the airport really early the next day.

Breakfast

They have 6 hefty breakfast sets to choose from. Mike ordered Set 3 - American Breakfast while I ordered Set 1 - Congee.

Breakfast Set Menu
The dining area is compact. We were early so we were there first.

Aside from the set you can get unlimited fruits and salad at the counter. Wide selection of teas and coffee were also available.

This was my order. A classic Asian dish of minced rice, minced pork, pork stock and egg with green veggies.

Canal View
Aside from the soothing surroundings of the hotel, there was an area at the back which I wished to have stayed longer. A patio at the canal where guests can rest at the hammock or lounge chairs.

I can stay here all day!

Free Bike Rental
This came in as a surprise as I didn't read it at the hotel's features. Of course we tried biking going to a nearby restaurant to have lunch. It comes with a helmet and lock.

Free Tuk-tuk Drop Off Service
This was also a surprise. We love everything FREE and since we really wanted to visit Wat Po, we scheduled an 8:30 am drop off service. Take note that you have to inform the reception a day before to secure slots. Also, they don't have service every Thursday.

Nearby Establishments
I must say that there are a few establishments near the hotel but we were not at all bothered as we enjoyed walking. Here are some of the nearby establishments.

7-11 Convenience Store
A short walk from our hotel where we bought snacks.

Local Restaurant
This was where we had our lunch and we went here via bicycle for around 3 mins. They serve traditional Thai cuisine which we loved.

Khao San Road
This famous rowdy party street is just a 10 minute walk from the hotel. We went here for two nights to just wander and people watch.

Pai Spa
Recommended by our hotel as the best Thai Spa in the area. This spa is at the opposite street of Khao San. The hotel was right as we experienced an authentic 1 hour Thai massage like no other.

Hemlock Restaurant
Another hotel recommendation along Phra Athit, although this restaurant can be reached easier by a car/cab for 10 minutes this restaurant is worth the visit as it has been a favorite among tourists for serving authentic, eclectic and really good Thai dishes.
