Walk with Cham and Godzilla.

Yes! I finally saw THE Godzilla. In the flesh!

I'm pretty sure everyone knows who Godzilla is, especially if you were born in the 90's and below. But for the benefit of the young ones who never encountered the name and weren't able to watch any of the movies or series here is a little background about Godzilla...

Godzilla is a famous fictional character created by the Japanese. This giant monster first appeared in the 1950's self-titled film conceived as the metaphor for the nuclear bombings which were dangerous to humanity. Its popularity transcended to the universal market appearing in various media aside from film such as TV series, video games, novels, comic books and later on became a hollywood entity where various films were produced, making Godzilla a worldwide pop culture icon.

So you can just imagine my delight when I heard recently that Godzilla emerged in the area of Shinjuku just last April 2015. I vowed I'd visit him if ever I go back to Tokyo.

Godzilla head in Shinjuku
When Godzilla celebrated its 60th anniversary, its huge head emerged at the top of Shinjuku Toho Building beside Hotel Gracery where people are given the illusion of Godzilla breaking its way through the buildings. Of course, for someone who grew up knowing this monster and even watching some of its films, I was excited to take a glimpse of this pop culture icon.

Alight JR Shinjuku Station East Exit and walk for 5-mins until you see Don Quijote.

Godzilla!

After a few minutes of walking and asking for directions, I finally saw him. I didn't plan on checking Godzilla up close. Seeing him from afar was more than enough, besides my Papa had difficulty walking so we didn't bother walking further.

Seeing Godzilla was a dream. Actually it was Mike and I's dream to see him up close and I bet he'll definitely enjoy this moment as well.

Kinda surreal

Hello Godzilla!
If this is the real thing I don't think I can pose like this. Or I might.
