A Mother's Day Dinner with my Mama and Family

Chef Laudico Guevarra's

'Chef Laudico Guevarra's is an upscale buffet restaurant in San Juan offering the creative masterpieces of Chefs Roland and Jackie Laudico.'

Chef Laudico Guevarra's is one of the restaurants owned by the power couple in Philippine culinary. Chef Rolando Laudico is not just a renowned chef in the Philippines but a friend as well. He was one of MasterChef hosts and judges alongside Ms Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, Chef JP Anglo and Chef Fernando Aracama.

MasterChef Hosts l-r: Chef Jayps, Chef Ferns, Judy Anne Santos & Chef Lau

I've already visited Chef Fern's Aracama and Chef Jayps' Sarsa so for this year's Mother's Day I decided to reserve four slots at Chef Lau's restaurant. Because Mother's Day is a peak day for restaurants (no mother would want to cook on that day, right?) They came up with 5 schedules:
Breakfast: 7:30 am- 10:00 am for P399
1st batch of Lunch: 11:00 am- 1:00 pm for P599
2nd batch of Lunch: 1:30 pm- 3:30 pm for P599
Maagang Salu-Salo: 5:00 pm- 6:30 pm for P549
Dinner: 7:30 pm- 10:00 pm for P549

Mother's Day Schedule

When I called their hotline to reserve the only slots available were Breakfast and Maagang Salu-salo. The slots were filled up quickly and to think that I reserved 6 days before the actual event, it only shows how well-known Guevarra's is. I settled with Maagang Salu-salo as we don't want to wake up early on weekends. We came 30 mins before the actual time so we can maximize the buffet experience.

Chef Laudico Guevarra's is a 1920's ancestral house turned eat-all-you-can buffet restaurant nestled along P. Guevarra Street in San Juan that serves traditional & modern Filipino dishes with affordable price.

Welcome to Guevarra's

The place is inviting and well lit, giving you the feel of attending a grand reunion with relatives.

Interior

In fact a group of family was celebrating a certain event the day we went as Guevarra's accepts reservation for big groups.

Function Areas

You can see numerous acetate photos of Pedro Guevarra on the walls of the restaurant to pay homage to the late public servant.

Luckily our table was near the buffet spread so we quickly helped ourselves with it.  The line started at the dessert area.

Dessert Area

Latik Fountain
Banana Cake, Pancakes, Red Velvet Cupcake, Mango Tart

Followed by soup, bread, appetizers & salad. I usually skip this area and move on to the Main Course but couldn't resist my fave Filipino dish, Sinigang na Baboy.

Sinigang na Baboy or Pork Sinigang

Steamed Vegetables, Sardines, Fresh Lumpiang Ubod, Radish Cucumber Salad & Tomato Salsa

Guevarra's has a wide selection of Main Course dishes...

Clean Plate Policy

I had the following...

Didn't get to take a photo of my Sinigang na Baboy serving. After that I went to get the Chili Garlic Alimasag, Halabos na Hipon, Grilled Squid, Mussells, Bicol Express and Kaldereta.

2nd plate

For my next plate I tried the 3 kinds of pizza- karnevorous, vegetarian and seafood, from the three I liked the karnevorous more. Of course I got myself a kare-kare.

3rd plate

Afterwards I helped myself to some lechon baboy (I wouldn't miss eating lechon!)

All the dishes I ate were good! Especially the seafood, they tasted fresh. The dishes I tried tasted like good ol' traditional dishes my Mama, Tita and Lola cook which gave me a nostalgic feel of my childhood and good memories with family.

I was full already but had enough space for dessert to fill my stomach with. I had Maja Mais, Red Velvelt, Banana cake, Mango Tart, Leche Flan, Carrot Cake. From the rest I love Maja Mais and Leche Flan the most.

Dessert Plate

For my last hurrah, I got myself a cup serving combo of chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Oh it was GOOD!

We had a wonderful and filling time at Guevarra's, too bad Chef Lau wasn't around, I would love to introduce him to my family.

The obligatory family photo

I just had to take a photo at the facade of the restaurant as it looks so regal at night.

Chef Lau's Guevarra is a perfect venue for intimate family dinners or reunions with friends or relatives who love Filipino dishes (like us) and want to have a great time. I also recommend this place for balikbayans and tourists to introduce how wonderful, delicious [and down-right affordable] Filipino cuisine is.
