Summit Ridge Hotel Tagaytay

An impulsive out of town trip with Mike on the last weekend of 2013.

And since this was a last minute trip during a peak season and with very little planning, almost all good and affordable hotels in Tagaytay were fully booked. Though I found a cheap bed and breakfast in a secluded area in the city, Mike wanted to book a hotel with a view of Taal Volcano and along the highway. So he convinced me to try Summit Ridge Hotel which he noticed while driving from our last Tagaytay trip back in September.

Surprisingly the King Classic was still available the time I inquired (it was the night before the booking). And because it was a bit pricey for me, I looked for other options but unfortunately there was none. So the next thing I know, we were at the Summit Ridge's front desk paying P9250 for a one night stay.

Summit Ridge Hotel is a 9-floor hotel owned by Robinsons Land. Located along Gen Aguinaldo Highway beside Robinsons/Summit Ridge Promenade and in front of Josephine's Restaurant. According to their website, It offers the best view of Taal Volcano (or so we thought).

Our room was located at the fifth floor, all King Classic rooms are.

The room was spacious that's approximately 32 sqm with one king-sized bed.

It also has a cable LCD TV, complimentary WIFI, refrigerator, coffee and tea making facility, air conditioned unit, safety deposit box, telephone & closet with two room slippers.

The bathroom was also big with hot & cold shower, hairdryer and toiletries such as dental kit, shower cap, vanity kit, shampoo, conditioner, lotion & glycerin soaps. The bathroom was almost complete, yes just almost because there was no bidet, quite shocked that a room so pricey and spacious had no bidets!

It also has a balcony where you can take a glimpse of the so-called 'best view'

Balcony

This was the view from our balcony... So where's the volcano?

I was quite disappointed that I paid for that amount of money and discovered that there's no 'best view'. When I checked again in there website I realized that their tagline says 'Best view of Taal' which [I guess] doesn't necessarily mean Taal Volcano and could mean Taal Lake but I'm pretty sure everyone who'll read it will think likewise. Talk about false advertising.

Not only that, the complimentary WIFI was down during our first day and the front desk didn't even bother informing their guests upon check in. Good thing it was up again when we came back from dinner.

Breakfast Buffet
Complimentary breakfast buffet for two was also included in the payment. Most of the hotels in Tagaytay only offer plated ones so Mike and I were quite excited to experience C2's Breakfast Buffet.

The dining area was also spacious but when we were finding a place to seat, we couldn't find any and there was no waitstaff to help us so we had no choice but to seat at the veranda which was very cold.

Danggit, Ham, Veggies, Pancakes - they also have Adobo

Salad, Fruit, Bread and Juice station

Egg Station
All the breakfast food was good, especially the danggit, I have to say it was really yummy.

My plate

One of the most unorganized breakfast buffets I had experienced maybe because they were a bit overwhelmed with the number of guests during that day. Good thing the food was good.

Other Amenities
They have a cake station which they sell in a very colorful Gingerbread house.

They also have a semi-infinity pool at the back part of the establishment but with no heater.

We also took shots while lying on the green grass just outside the restaurant.

And because we were very eager to find Taal Volcano's perfect view, we tried our luck at the Sky Lounge, a function area at the 9th floor. And at last we were not disappointed.

Summit Ridge Hotel has spacious rooms with very comfortable bed, it also has a good location (5-10 minute walking distance from Sky Ranch) but for me, the price per night is not reasonable at all. The front desk staff should be atleast courteous so their guests will feel welcome to this very expensive hotel.
