Long Weekend Ilocos Roadtrip at Marcos Mausoleum

After our visit in Bantay Bell Tower we then went up north to the first town to visit in Ilocos Norte, Batac.

Batac town is a 1 hour travel from Bantay town.

Here lies the most important mausoleum for the people in Ilocos, Ferdinand Marcos'.

Door of the Mausoleum

Ferdinand Marcos was the country's 10th president and served for 20 years. He ruled under martial law and known to be a fierce & corrupt dictator. Twenty-four years after Marcos' death, his remains are still on public display and is free of charge. My parents said that it remains to be preserved because Marcos' family wants to bury him at the Heroes Cemetery.

Exterior Part of the Mausoleum

It was a quick 10-minute stop and unfortunately no cameras are allowed inside the mausoleum, they are very strict with the rule that a gwardya sibil is assigned to protect the remains and oversee the visitors.

No Cameras and Videos Allowed

Beside the mausoleum is the Marcos Museum. It was not part of our tour so we didn't get to enter the museum.

This mausoleum is said to be controversial, some say that the actual remains is buried somewhere and this one is just made of wax. The truth? Well, I don't think I'm in the right position to judge so I encourage you to see it for yourself.
